ar/Detail.aspx?si=16320\n\nHave unwanted and expired prescription medicat
ions? Dispose of them safely at the "Drug Take-Back" to prevent pill abus
e and theft. \n\nDeputies from the Alexandria Sheriff's Office will be co
llecting unwanted medications outside The Neighborhood Pharmacy at 2204 M
ount Vernon Avenue. The Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Alexandri
a will also be there to share information about safe disposal of medicati
on.\n\nDrop off potentially dangerous expired\, unused and unwanted presc
ription drugs and other medications for safe disposal and destruction. Th
ese drugs can be a source of supply for illegal use and an unacceptable r
isk to public health and safety. \n\nThis initiative addresses a vital pu
blic safety and public health issue. Many Americans are not aware that me
dicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversio
n\, misuse and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription
drugs are obtained from family and friends\, including from the home med
icine cabinet. In addition\, many Americans do not know how to properly d
ispose of their unused medicine\, often flushing them down the toilet or
throwing them away - both potential safety and health hazards. \n\nThis p
rogram also supports the goals of the Eco-City Alexandria initiative to p
romote a place where people can live healthier and economically productiv
e lives while reducing their impact on the environment. \n\nThe service i
s free and anonymous\; no questions asked.\n\nLocation: No Location Spec
