 of Alexandria's rising youth leaders\, on Thursday\, August 12\, from 3:00
 -5:00 p.m. Please register by August 2 using this form and you will receiv

 ault Center and the Alexandria Library\, SAPCA and ACAP are sponsoring the
  eighth annual Alexandria Youth Leadership Conference\, an event to teach 
 youth how to engage\, lead\, and advocate for issues in our community. Whi
 le this conference is usually held in person\, for everyone's health and s
 afety\, this year we will hold the conference virtually via Zoom. We antic
 ipate between 25 and 30 young leaders will participate in the leadership c
 onference\, the same number as have participated in past conferences.\n \n
 In addition to skill-building\, the Youth Leadership Conference helps to s
 trengthen essential building blocks for young people\, or Developmental As
 sets\, including a sense of feeling valued by their community\, self-estee
 m\, recognizing themselves as a resource to others and planning and decisi
 on-making.\n \nThe Youth Leadership Conference is excited to continue our 
 annual Networking Event to encourage youth civic engagement in Alexandria.
  Our goal is to facilitate youth-adult partnerships by providing a virtual
  forum in which organizations can connect directly with Alexandria's youth
  leaders. Your participation as a leader in the Alexandria community is in
 valuable. Youth will have an opportunity to talk with you and other adult 
 community leaders and learn about volunteer and leadership opportunities a
 vailable in Alexandria. Youth have much to learn from your experience and 
 are deeply connected to the work you are doing in our City.\n \nThis is al
 so your opportunity to recruit youth who have the necessary skills to part
 icipate in your organization in a leadership position such as a member of 
 your Board of Directors\, Commission member or Committee Chair. Many Alexa
 ndria boards\, commissions and community groups have space reserved for yo
 uth representatives or could be stronger if youth voices were included in 
 the group. Unfortunately\, many youth spaces remain consistently unfilled\
 , or organizations do not think of including youth leaders on their boards
 . Our aim is to help build a network of youth leaders who can serve effect
 ively and to help boards\, commissions and community groups understand how
  to benefit from youth voices. We believe the first step is to have commun
 ity leaders talk with youth to learn about their abilities and interests a
 nd to see where their voices and skills could fit within our community. To
  accomplish this\, SAPCA and ACAP will work with you to:\n\n?	Meet Alexand
 ria's youth leaders at this Networking Event and throughout the year.\n?	H
 elp orient you as to why it is important or beneficial to have youth leade

 a's Child (FFAC) is hosting the "Families Helping Families: From Our Home 
 to Yours Virtual Gala" on August 12 at 8 p.m. to help enrich the lives of 
 children in foster care during this critical time in their development. \n
 This is the second virtual gathering the Fund has hosted for the annual ev
 ent.  \nThe free\, interactive event will include a raffle\, an online auc
 tion\, special guests and more. Those interested can buy a raffle ticket\,
  register for the event\, participate in other ways and support the Fund i
 f unable to attend. Tickets are free\, but guests are required to pre-regi
 ster. \nAll funds raised will directly benefit children in foster care or 
 at risk for abuse and neglect\, helping to ensure that each child has thei
 r basic needs met and providing life-enhancing and enriching opportunities
  that many of these children miss out on\, like dance\, art or karate less
 ons\, summer camping\, school field trips\, scouting and team sports. The 
 Fund also purchases emergency bedding\, back to school supplies\, holiday 
 gifts and basic housing needs\, such as comforters or kitchenware for yout
 h aging out of the foster care system. \nMoreover\, the Fund does signific
