This event is hosted by the Museum in par tnership with the Alexandria-Caen Sister Cities Committee and includes cid er tastings\, music\, and light refreshments. During the course of the ev ening\, learn more about the growing Virginia cider industry and its conne ction to the historic tavern and the Caen region of France\, all while enj oying ciders from Albemarle\, Blue Bee Cider\, Cobbler Mountain Cellars\, Corcoran\, and Foggy Ridge Cideries. \n\nWhile Virginia wineries have mad e headlines the past few years\, Virginia cider is beginning to move into the spotlight\, with sales up 200% from 2014 to 2015. Virginia Governor T erry McAuliffe called the cider industry the "new shining star" and sees i t as one of the cornerstones in the private sector "to build a new Virgini a economy."\n\nIn the late 18th and early 19th centuries\, Gadsby's Tavern was the center of social and political life in Alexandria and the new Fed eral City of Washington. The tavern served as the premier gathering place for residents - including George Washington - and visitors to eat\, drink \, learn\, and influence history. \n\nThe Alexandria-Caen Sister City Comm ittee is a volunteer committee that promotes educational and cultural exch ange between the city of Caen in Normandy\, France and the City of Alexand ria. The committee hosts a lecture series\, coordinates an annual commemor ation of D-Day\, organizes and facilitates student and intern exchange pro grams\, and offers French classes and storytimes at various locations arou nd Alexandria.\nThe Committee is partnering with the Office of Historic Al exandria\, a City of Alexandria department whose mission is to enhance the quality of life for City residents and visitors by preserving and interpr eting Alexandria's historic properties\, archaeological sites\, cultural r esources\, artifact collections\, objects\, archives\, records\, and perso nal stories\, and by encouraging audiences to appreciate Alexandria's dive rse historic heritage and its place within the broader context of American history. \n\n\n\n\nLocation: Gadsby's Tavern Museum\, 134 N.
