This event is free and open to the public. No res ervations are required.\n\nArchaeologists have uncovered the foundations o f Pioneer Mill at the former site of Robinson Terminal South. Pioneer Mill was one of the largest steam-powered flour mills in the United States. Bu ilt in 1854\, the mill was advertised as six stories high with twelve mill stones and a 250 horsepower steam engine. Because of its size and locatio n\, the building dominated the Alexandria waterfront for more than 50 year s before it was destroyed by fire in 1897. Multiple owners put the buildin g to different industrial uses after the Civil War. The Robinson Terminal Warehouse Company built storage facilities on the former site of Pioneer M ill in the 1940s. \n\nLocation: See Details\nContact Person: Emma Richards on\nContact Phone: 703.746.4719\nContact Email: emma.richardson@alexandria va.gov\nAudience: Anyone may attend\nTags: Archaeology Museum\, Museums\, Old & Historic Alexandria\n\nImport this event into your calendar: http:// apps.alexandriava.gov/Calendar/iCal.aspx?id=1&si=16802\n\nWeb resources:\n \nhttps://www.alexandriava.gov/Archaeology\n DTEND:20170926T140000Z DTSTAMP:20170923T185024Z DTSTART:20170926T120000Z LOCATION:See Details SEQUENCE:4 STATUS:CONFIRMED SUMMARY:Site Visit: Foundations of Pioneer Mill TRANSP:TRANSPARENT UID:cb8c0c46-2295-4bf8-bb95-00ae718d0c92 URL:https://www.alexandriava.gov/Archaeology X-COA-DTSTAMP:20170923T185024Z END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT CATEGORIES:Black History Museum,Museums,Parker Gray DESCRIPTION:To make sure the time\, location\, and other aspects have not c hanged\, or to share this event with your friends\, please see https://app s.alexandriava.gov/Calendar/Detail.aspx?si=16741\n\nThe exploits of the Tu skeegee Airmen and other African American units serving in World War II a re the stuff of legend today.
