The festival h ighlights the special role firefighters have played throughout history\, e specially those of Friendship. The event will feature a collection of anti que fire equipment and\, courtesy of the Alexandria Fire Department\, a di splay of modern fire trucks and apparatus. Children will enjoy "driving" t hese big rigs and each child attending will receive a free fire helmet! Th e Alexandria Red Cross and the Community Emergency Response Team will also be on hand. Other attractions include craft booths\, food vendors and fre e birthday cake which will be served at 11 a.m. \n\nIn addition to the da y's outdoor events\, festival participants will be able to experience the history of the Fire Company through a tour of the Friendship Firehouse Mus eum. The building was originally built as a firehouse in 1855\, remodeled in 1871 and restored again in 1992 before undergoing roof and cupola repa irs several years ago. There will be a variety of exhibitors of interest to all ages\, food and drinks\, plus the firehouse museum will be open for all to see and appreciate our forefathers efforts to protect Alexandria f rom fire in the 18th century. Be sure to see the old hose reel\, as well a s the suction pumper fire engine\, both pulled by hand. The bags of arti facts will be sent to the laboratory in the Museum for processing.\n\nAll the necessary equipment will be furnished\, but please wear comfortable cl othes\, boots or sturdy shoes (no sandals)\, and bring a water bottle.\n\n \nTo accommodate the large demand for the popular Family Dig Day program\, the following policy has been established:\n\n\n$5/person.
