The city has several historic districts and developed the first community archaeology program in America. It is the perfect plac e to investigate the Shuter's Hill plantation site and to learn about arti fact identification and analysis at the Alexandria Archaeology Museum.\n\n This summer's institute focuses on the excavation and study of the plantat ion landscape and the work environment of enslaved African Americans. Work ing with the City of Alexandria's Archaeologists\, students will also disc uss public heritage values and issues resulting in a public interpretive t our. This institute is open to current and visiting George Washington Univ ersity undergraduate and graduate students.
