 s lie behind the closed doors of four of Alexandria's historic sites!  Att
 ics and Alleys is a three-hour walking tour featuring the rarely seen spac
 es of four sites-the Lee-Fendall House\, Gadsby's Tavern Museum\, the Stab
 ler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum\, and Carlyle House Historic Park-reveali
 ng the remnants of stories otherwise hidden.  This behind-the-scenes acces
 s is in honor of National Preservation Month.  Tickets are limited and adv
 ance reservations are required.    \n\nTours begin at 9 a.m. and ends arou
 nd noon.  Choose from starting at the Lee-Fendall House (614 Oronoco Stree
 t) or Gadsby's Tavern Museum (134 N. Royal Street).  Tour includes stairs\
 , access to confined spaces\, and walking over many city blocks\, includin
 g through alleys.  Walking shoes required\; tour will be held rain or shin

 ce between historic and modern masonry\, the effect of moisture on masonry
  walls\, and the proper mortar to use on soft historic brick.  Live demons
 trations of brick repointing\, paint removal\, cleaning and maintenance wi
 ll provide opportunities to ask the experts questions and learn about best
  practices for maintaining historic masonry buildings.  \nMark Vaughan\, f
 ounder\, and Edward Wall\, at Vaughan Restoration Masonry\, are specialist
 s in masonry restoration.  VRM is based in Alexandria and has worked throu
 ghout the City cleaning\, repairing\, removing paint from and preserving m
 asonry on some of Alexandria's most historic buildings including: 107 King
  Street (Fish Market)\, 22 S Fairfax Street\, 1201 King Street\,  and 1707
  Duke Street (Bruin Slave Jail).\nJessica Aquiline\, Conservation Speciali
 st\, at LimeWorks.us a full service company committed to providing histori
 cally appropriate mortars for professional masonry restoration. Jessica re
 ceived her Masters of Science in Historic Preservation from the University
  of Pennsylvania (2013) and her BA in Historic Preservation at the Univers
