 cal Society presents Dr. Nancy Davis\, curator emeritus at the National Mu
 seum of American History\, Smithsonian Institution. Dr Davis will discuss 
 Alexandria merchant William Ramsay and his 1753-1756 ledger books which pr
 ovide a fascinating lens into business and the material culture of Alexand
 ria.\n\nThe NMAH Archives Center\, Smithsonian Institution holds William R
 amsay's business ledgers from the years 1753 to 1756. These ledgers detail
  the mercantile activity of Ramsay in the town of Alexandria. "The conserv
 ation and investigation of these 1753-1756 documents unlocked a treasure t
 rove of information on the people\, the goods\, and the payment methods in
  our port city."  - Nancy Davis  \n\nNancy Davis is a curator emeritus hav
 ing recently retired from NMAH. Dr Davis received her Ph.D from GWU in 198
 7.  Before joining the staff of NMAH\, she worked at the Maryland Historic
