 erican writer who escaped from slavery and was later freed. She became an 
 abolitionist speaker and reformer. She wrote an autobiographical novel\, "
 Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl." Julia Wilbur\, a relief worker fro
 m Rochester\, NY\, came to Alexandria during the Civil War. She kept a det
