    The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Alexandria area for Thursday, March 5, from midnight to 9 p.m. A snow emergency has been declared for the City of Alexandria, with enforcement of snow emergency routes to begin at 7 a.m. on Thursday, March 5. Significant accumulation of ice and snow may result in a Level 2 storm, which means that travel could be dangerous and some residential roads may not be clear until later in the week. Because the storm is expected to begin with rain, pre-treating streets with salt brine will not be effective. This type of precipitation often results in power outages. The City urges all residents and businesses to be prepared on an ongoing basis for the possibility that it may not be safe to travel for three or more days, and that power may be out during this period.

    Event Details:All residents and stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the plan development process, including youth, parents, youth-serving professionals, businesses, community groups and faith-based organizations. Public comments for the Youth Master Plan may also be submitted to ron.frazier@alexandriava.gov or by contacting Ron Frazier at 703.746.5967.

    Plan development is led by the City’s new Children Youth and Families Collaborative Commission. The Commission advocates for Alexandria’s children and youth, aged prenatal to 21 years, and their families by advising City Council, the school board, and City and school staff on policies that affect children, youth and their families; promoting the coordination, alignment and effectiveness of services provided to children, youth and their families by the City, public schools and private organizations; and studying and promoting research and best practices.
