Life in Civil War Alexandria: Commemorative Event

Discover how Alexandria was transformed by the Civil War at this extensive living history event on the weekend of the 150th anniversary of Alexandria’s occupation by Union troops. This kick-off to Alexandria’s Civil War Commemoration features an opening ceremony, music by the Federal City Brass Band and the Washington Revels, Robert E. Lee, a Civil War photographer, an army surgeon, a U.S. Military Railroad portrayal, the Victorian Dance Ensemble, Union and Confederate soldiers, African American civilian impressions, and a variety of other interpretive activities at Market Square, the 100 block of North Royal Street and Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, 134 North Royal Street.
