Media is an unavoidable part of life, but are you controlling it or is it controlling you? Girls will use the collection of the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum alongside modern advertising to examine types of media, persuasion techniques, and stereotypes. Then, using their new media savvy, they’ll take action and create a Public Service Announcement to get the real message out about girls’ health and/or beauty. By the end of the overnight, girls will have completed all of the steps for the It’s Your Story—Tell It: Media leadership journey for Cadette Girl Scouts.
Cadette Girl Scout Troops will check in at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum to drop off their sleeping bags and meet their museum leader before heading over to the Apothecary Museum (approx. 2 blocks away). While the project will be completed at the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum, girls and chaperones will be spending the night at the Tavern due to space. Overnight includes an evening snack and light breakfast. Please, no tag-alongs for this event. We can accommodate male chaperones with prior notice. Cost is $20 per adult and $30 per girl. All overnights begin at 7pm on Friday evening and end at 8:30am Saturday morning. Groups are responsible for following Safety Wise requirements of the Girl Scouts and taking care of their own permission slips. Activity patch is available for purchase. Troop leaders are responsible for buying the Girl Scout award separately.
This overnight runs concurrently with a Junior Girl Scout overnight. The different troop levels complete separate activities but share a common sleeping space and breakfast. Multi-level troops should register girls separately under the appropriate-level overnight.
