This event helps residents properly dispose of expired, unwanted or unused prescription and non-prescription drugs. This program supports the goals of the Eco-City Alexandria initiative, which promote a place where people can live healthier and economically productive lives while reducing their impact on the environment.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency’s Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products as Pollutants (PPCPs) website, studies have shown that pharmaceuticals (including prescription and over-the-counter therapeutic drugs) are present in our nation's waterbodies, and further research suggests that certain drugs may cause ecological harm. Proper disposal of prescription and over-the-counter therapeutic drugs can help reduce the impact to aquatic and ecological life.
Find out more information about the initiative, find a local collection site near you, and learn more about, proper drug disposal.
