Event Details:Building on the success of past programs focused on advocating for African American historic resources, including schools (Rosenwald-funded and otherwise), cemeteries and churches, this one-day conference will provide updates on African American historic sites in the state, provide networking opportunities, and offer practical information on advocacy, documentation and funding to help build capacity and strengthen organizations preserving African American historic sites in the state.

Representatives from the Alexandria Black History Museum, the City of Alexandria Planning and Archaeology Departments, the National Park Service, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Sacred Ground Historical Reclamation Project at Shockoe Bottom in Richmond, Evergreen and East End Cemeteries in Richmond, the Scrabble School in Rappahannock County, the University of Mary Washington and the Virginia Department of Historic Resources will be speaking.

Brent Leggs, the Director of the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund at the National Trust for Historic Preservation, will be the keynote speaker.
