Event Details:“Africans were not considered immigrants before the 1960s,” says Dr. Nemata Blyden. The George Washington University professor talks about the Africans who arrived in the United States after slavery ended in 1863. James Kwegyir Agyeman was one of them. Aggrey came from the Gold Coast (Ghana) in 1898 and became an influential member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, taught at Livingston College, and co-founded Ghana’s Achimota, one the world’s most prestigious high schools.
