Event Details:The Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum will offer special tours, The Apothecary and the Civil War, every Sunday at 12:30 p.m. starting June 5 through Labor Day weekend. This approximately 30 minute tour will feature themes similar to PBS’s Mercy Street. Topics include abolitionism in the Quaker community, prescriptions from the Civil War era, and the Leadbeater family during the war. Special archival materials will be showcased during the tour and period ingredients covered in detail.
The Apothecary is located at 105-107 S. Fairfax Street. Tickets available online at http://shop.alexandriava.gov or by calling 703.746.3852. Cost is $6 per person and tickets are limited; tickets sold at the door as available. Doors open at 12:15 and will lock once tour begins at 12:30.
The Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum in Old Town Alexandria is noted for its outstanding collection of medicinal herbs, shop furnishings, and apothecary bottles and equipment. It also has a spectacular collection of archival materials, including journals, letters and diaries, prescription and formula books, ledgers, orders and invoices.
