An Audit to Get Excited About

by Bill Eger 18. March 2011 11:55

We know its tax season.  And anytime the word “audit” is thrown around this time of year there may be a moment of anxiety.  But fear not, we’re not talking about THAT type of audit.  We’re talking about a Home Energy Audit.

If you’re like me, you’re interested in lowering your home energy bill and reducing your impact on Alexandria’s environment.  We turn off our lights when leaving a room, turn down (or up depending on the time of year) our thermostat temperature when leaving the home for the day, and take shorter showers as means to cut those utility payments.  These actions take us a long way, but again if you’re like me, you want to know how to go further.

One of the best ways to take that next step is to have a Home Energy Audit performed on your household.  Whether it be to identify where those pesky drafts and leaks may exist or finding out whether or not your air conditioner needs tuning or replacement, a comprehensive home energy audit is a great way to start finding opportunities to reduce your energy costs.

Don’t know where to start with a Home Energy Audit?  Don’t fret.  The City of Alexandria is here to bring you up to speed.  Come learn the “ins and outs” of Home Energy Audits from regional experts at the City of Alexandria’s Green Building Workshop “Energy Audits for your Home and Small Business” on Saturday March 19th, 2011 from 9 AM – 12:30 PM at the Charles E. Beatly, Jr Central Library, Community Meeting Room (5005 Duke Street; Alexandria, VA 22304).
